Egwood Boards & Panels (P) Ltd., Hyderabad, has been involved in the business of manufacturing plywood since 1964 and produces one of the most diversified range of boards and panels in the industry today. Having separate facilities for operation like paper impregnation, flush door and block board manufacturing, etc. enables Egwood to not only achieve high quality standards bust also produce very specialized products. Egwood’s EGLAM – Densified Laminated Wood for transformer insulation is one among the many of this genre of specialized products.
Egwood Densified Lamniated Wood, - EGLAM for short – is manufactured from smooth rotary cut veneers of select timber that is free from defects like rots, knots, resin pockets, splits, etc. from the in house peeling unit under careful supervision. Further, extra case is taken to choose veneer that can absorb the specially formulated resins to desired levels. These are then dried in modern steam heated dries to reduce moisture content to desired levels. The veneers then gets treated with high quality specialty resins before being re-dried, assembled in the ‘pack form’ and configured according to the requirements of the end product. Completely automated, highly sophisticated hydraulic presses, operating under precise, predetermined pressure and temperature, calibrated and controlled using SCADA based systems are used to ensure dimensional stability. Its adherence to customer specification is then tested for in the company’s state-of-the –art laboratories. The end product thus tested for all characteristics at nationally recognized independent testing laboratories and certified as transformer insulation.

Products DetailsEGLAM is a specially engineered product, designed for transformer insulation applications such as coil clamping rings, coil supports. Spacers, lead supports, etc., that require high mechanical strength along with transformer oil absorption. EGLAM protects coils from damage due to axial forces generated by short circuit conditions and thus protecting the transformer as well.
EGLAM has the following special characteristics:- Excellent electrical insulation in oil,
- High Compressive, tensile strength,
- Mechanical properties are equivalent to metals like Brass, aluminum,
- Can withstand high temperature – up to 150° C.
- Dimensionally stable and wrap-free,
- Good machining characteristics with simple wood working tools,
- Available as machined components matched to exact specifications/drawings.
